I was fortunate enough to have read a lot of amazing books this year, books that both have released this year and, well, not released this year. For day 1 of Top Ten of 2017, the list isn't limited to when the books came out, soooo. Let's get started!
Note: the list is in no way in any specific order. I can't do that--it'd be so difficult to actually place them in an order.

Warcross by Marie Lu
This was probably the easiest decision out of all the books. I read Warcross three times this year, and it made me love it even more each time around. It's no doubt my favourite Marie Lu book, and definitely one of my all time favourites.
Heartstone by Elle Katharine White
I read this early in the year and in one sitting. At 2 AM. I couldn't help it! The year before, senior year of high school, we'd read Pride and Prejudice and watched a bit of the 2005 film and I adored it! So a Pride and Prejudice retelling? With dragons?? Well, it made me so happy and I adore this book to pieces.
The Cruel Prince by Holly Black
Yes! Releasing in a little over a week, The Cruel Prince is definitely a book that should be on your radar! Both at once dangerous and exhilarating, Black's new series begins off with an amazing first book. It's faeries and court intrigue and a wicked cool main character. Holly Black surprised me multiple times with this book and I loved every bit of it.
The Hearts We Sold by Emily Lloyd-Jones
This book made my heart whole and then broke it. The Hearts We Sold had a slow start but it picked up quick and failed to bore me after. It had an amazing main character, Dee, with whom I relate to very deeply, as well as one of the best love interests ever. This, indeed, does make me biased.
To Kill a Kingdom by Alexandra Christo
This was such a fun debut! There was a lot of banter, an amazing twist to siren and mermaid lore, and definitely a vicious princess. Oh, and a great prince, too, because duh. But, so seriously, To Kill a Kingdom is an amazing debut and it was one of my most anticipated reads of 2018--and it definitely did not disappoint.
First & Then by Emma Mills
Emma Mills writes absolutely amazing contemporary novels, and I sort of worked backwards with her novels. Despite loving her latest, Foolish Hearts, I think First & Then has to be my favourite--I just... I loved everything about it. Especially Ezra, I won't even lie. This was just such a cute and fun novel and I want to read it forever and ever. One of my all time favourites? Absolutely.
The Last Namsara by Kristen Ciccarelli
No offence, but I wish they hadn't changed that cover. Anyway! The Last Namsara was an amazing debut, filled with beautiful writing, a sweet romance, a main character you can't help but root for and admire, and DRAGONS! Whoever doesn't love dragons needs to read this book.
The Glass Spare by Lauren DeStefano
Lauren DeStefano wrote such a heartwrenching sibling relationship in this book that it broke my heart just at the brief mention of them. The Glass Spare is a new and unique novel by her and it definitely keeps you hooked. There are curses and such adorable anecdotes and shenanigans, and it's really an amazing novel.
Shimmer and Burn by Mary Taranta
Lemme just start off by saying how much I love Faris. She;s dedicated and she dealt with a lot in this book and I have so much respect for her. Taranta's debut is one filled with a complex magic system that makes it stand out and has a great cast of characters. I honestly am dying for book 2!
Velvet by Temple West
Cashmere was more than a strong debut to Velvet, but it's this first novel that has my pick. It was totally unexpected! West created such amazing characters that felt real--I loved everything about them! It was an incredibly enjoyable novel and I like to think West had a blast writing it.
