{ Recap } May Edition

by - June 01, 2018

It's that time again! I'm pretty sure the weather is controlled by a trickster god and it's just going to get worse from here on! In other news, here's my month recall!

The past week, we've had three overcast days, two of hell on earth. I don't know what the weekend will bring, but I am not excited to find out.

I hate summer, in case you can't tell. With a burning passion to equate the awful heat and humidity. When your wardrobe is filled with as much black as mine is, you'd feel the same. Heat, in general, is just awful.

On a whole, May was not so bad. For one, I got a book that's not out for another year, read and loved it, and still am not over it. Wicked Saints was everything I wanted it to be and I'm gonna die waiting for book 2, but I'm still glad I got to read it.

I completed my Emma Mills ARC collection! I mean, I don't have her latest ARC (yet), and it'll be a while before I do, but eep! The three I have look so pretty together, I'm so emo.

I also got to see good friends, take nice photos, and got chipotle!!! That indeed needs to be mentioned because chipotle is pretty amazing. I also feel like I just had some great interactions on twitter this month? I feel like I talked to a lot of people and it felt really great!

Some other accomplishments: made the top GR reviewer's list twice! Got 100+ followers on insta! Got new shoes—twice! I made two animated aesthetics, which are totally worth all the goddamn work. Ummm. I'm more than 75% done with my goal for the year and I still have the entirety of June to finish it. (Is this bragging because I guess I'm bragging lmao)

I feel like there's more but that's all I can think of! WAIT, I HAD BURGERS ON WEDNESDAY AND SAW MY OLD TEACHER. Yaaaay!!

Now: onto the reads!

the reads

So GR is being super annoying right now and they aren't counting one of the books toward my challenge. It's hella infuriating, but I AM KEEPING COUNT SO JOKE'S ON YOU, GOODREADS. Moving on, here's my everything I read in May!

♩ Wildcard by Marie Lu ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ + }*

other posts

I tried being productive this month, but who knows if it was a successful endeavour. I'm beginning to think I should just post reviews of books as I read them, regardless of release date, but I'm hesitant...

♩ REVIEW: Save the Date by Morgan Matson [ARC]
♩ REVIEW: The Game Can't Love You Back by Karole Cozzo [ARC]
♩ REVIEW: Onyx & Ivory by Mindee Arnett [ARC]
♩ REVIEW: Legendary by Stephanie Garber [ARC]
♩ REVIEW: The Way You Make Me Feel by Maurene Goo [ARC]
♩ SERIES REVIEW: Magic of Blood and Sea by Cassandra Rose Clarke
♩ SERIES REVIEW: Magic of Wind and Mist by Cassandra Rose Clarke

Yay!! Look at all those reviews! Go me.

I mean. Posting all of those might make up for missing some of the weekly features I do... hopefully. (Probably not but what can ya do, these are #JustMithThings.)

resolution update

In case you don't know what this is, here's the basic essentials.

Every month, my goal is to read at least one (1) backlist bookone (1) physical book; and one (1) monthly release. These do not include rereads. May or may not add an audiobook as well, but we'll see!

{ backlist }

♩ The Dire King by William Ritter ♫ ♫ ♫ ♪ }
♩ Trickster's Choice by Tamora Pierce ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ }

I've been reading a lot of backlist lately! It's because I feel bad whenever I read so many ARCs—and that's because part of me thinks I won't have enough monthly releases in the future lol. But I'm happy to be getting to older books on my TBR!

♩ Allied by Amy Tintera ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ }

Re: not having enough monthly reads due to ARCs: an example. I was struggling this month!

recent happenings

I've decided that this section will be a little look into my personal life and what I was up to, other than reading, during the past month.

{ music }

Recently, my iPod went dead. Like, the charger is completely done for and will not turn back on, so. Until I get a new battery, it's hasta la vista to my beloved. I bring this tragedy up because this is mostly how I listened to my music—when I'm not on my desktop. So I've felt a little behind on new music lately.

But songs I do know released were Panic! At The Disco's High Hopes, which I really really love! It's super catchy and totally P!ATD fashion and I'm so excited for his upcoming album.

Zayn also has a new song out—Entertainer. It's brilliant. I love the vocals, the chorus, the sort of lowkey chill tune of it. I've had it on repeat a few days after it came out, but I haven't heard it recently, so clearly, I gotta remedy that.

{ netflix / tv }

I'm on season 3 of Person of Interest and I needed a break from it halfway through because of a tragedy. I'm pissed off and angry by what happened and I lowkey need a long break from it. I hate feeling this way.

Which, I guess, means I can watch the other shows I'm eons behind on—the DCTV shows on the CW. Most of them are on netflix but... how do you go back to mediocrity after watching Person of Interest? None of those shows remotely interest me now.

Timeless also ended this in May and there's been no word on a renewal yet. I was sort of satisfied with the ending, even if I do think they did Wyatt dirty. And I'm not saying that just because I like Wyatt—he's okay and all but it's Lucy that's the real star—but because he was incredibly out of character and I don't think the writers did a good job on him.

I'm hoping for a third season! I really adore this show!

{ life }

Soo, I started working on animated aesthetics, and... let me tell you, the end result is highly pleasing. I've made two so far, which you can check out right here:

This was my test run, my first soirée into this. The aesthetic itself is based on an idea I have, and I have promised a friend to work on it... so, yes, I am working on Myra and Asher's story.

I also made one for my friend! Cayla's #RavenWIP is amazing from what I've read and you should definitely check it out! Here's what I made her:

With my Dev story—and, well, Jayna story, too, I guess—I've come to a realisation. The setting is all wrong. They were set in small towns and what the hell do I know about small towns? So now, I'm reworking everything—uh, mentally—so they can fit in a city-setting. In a New York City-setting. So! We'll see how that goes.

anticipated reads

To be honest, I think June actually has a few releases I'm excited for?? There are others that I'm also hoping to get to since I have them!

And here are some books I've read that you should check out, too!

Uhhhh. June 5th is a day.
