introducing tunes in review, aka my bad music taste

by - March 23, 2019

hello friends!! on this fine saturday (i think?)
i am happy to introduce my newest blog feature:
tunes in review! [jazz hands]

━━━━

so gathering from that sad, sad introduction, you all can guess how bad i am at a) introducing literally anything, myself included; b) how bad i am at titling things, hence that awful post title lol; and c) explaining things because of course i'm gonna try to describe this new thing.

i have a bad, bad habit of listening to the same songs over and over and over and over. finding new songs or artists is hard when you don't have the time for it. it's also hard when you don't have a solid place to start. looking for new books is never hard for me because lorde knows i have hundreds, but songs?

.... it's easier to stick to whatever's in my itunes library. i am weak, i admit it.

backstory out of the way: i found a solution, which you might've heard me complain about:

spotify discover

this is not life changing, i know, but holy shit, it is. i admit to not using spotify often—read: ever. but its discover feature (which, if you aren't familiar with it, is basically a curated playlist they make for you weekly based on what songs you've liked on their program) has been a lifesaver for me, and almost every other week, i find something new to fall in love with.

and i want to share that! i love music and i love that a song means something different to each person, that they make us feel different. aside from books, i think, music is my next happy place, and i want to share that with you guys.

tunes in review, long story short, is my way of doing that. for the next couple of weeks—hopefully!—i'll be playing catch up with some of my older finds. it'll be a few songs, 3-4—maybe more, depending—and... well, i'll see where it goes from there!

♩ million bucks by smallpools

million bucks was one of the first few songs i've found after a loooooong drought of new music, and HOLY SHIT GUYS, i love it. it's upbeat, catchy, and one of those songs that just make you want to dance or sing along to it. or maybe it's just me, but aaaaahhhhhhh!!! i love it. it never fails to cheer me up!

memorable lyrics:

The ceiling's just the start
Reaching for a star
A bullseye from a dart
The ceiling's just the start

 new religion by the heydaze

AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. i will never not scream about this song because oh. oh, it's so pure and it fills me with SUCH LIGHT AND HAPPINESS. i listened to this song on repeat for weeks and spent each repeat learning the lyrics, and never got tired of it. it's one of those songs, for me, that... when i listen to it, it reminds me of something bright and full of joy. like seeing my friend after weeeeks of radio silence; sharing fries and stories; squeezing the hell out of each other as i leave her at her bus stop.

favourite part of the song:

Chaos inside us, it turns into silence
‘Cause we've got a little bit more, ‘cause we've got a little bit more
The cracks in your ceiling as deep as the feeling
We've got a little bit more, we've got a little bit more

(1:09-1:30)

dreaming alone by against the current (feat. taka)

admittedly, i haven't heard this song in a few weeks, lol. and another admission: this was from youtube browsing! i was deeply into another against the current song, wasteland, and was wondering if i could find another, and well!

here we are.

i don't really have any stories with this except i also downloaded nico and the niners the same day. but listening to it again, despite still not relating to the lyrics, i'm still enamoured with the chill tune it has. i really love her voice and taka's complements it super well. i've linked the lyric video because i hate music videos, but this one has a really atmospheric one! full of lights and it sets a romantic mood.

♪ ♫ ♪

thaaaaat is it from this. for this week. i hope you guys give 'em a listen and maybe even like them!

in the mean time,
what kind of songs are you into?
give me recs because i'm alwaaaaaays looking for them!
