Look. Confession time: Halloween may be my favourite holiday but it is 100% for the aesthetic. I don't dress up or even go out (though I wouldn't mind it); I'm more likely to be stuck inside the house and try to pick a creepy, atmospheric, eerie, or bloody read. Or all 4. So, this brings me to today's list: books that you should check out during this time of year!
So! I hope you guys had a wonderful month! I'm sad Halloween is over—the month, but the Holiday, too, I guess—but this month brought about a lot of great reads! What are some of your favourite Halloween-y reads?
♩ The Cruel Prince by Holly Black
I. Adore. This. Book. To pieces, okay? Holly Black is a genius and if you've heard the hype, trust me, it is warranted. 100%. Black does not hold back and she does faeries in all their natural, bloody light. I loved reading every bit of it and it is the perfect read for a night like Halloween's.
♩ Reign of the Fallen by Sarah Glenn Marsh
Necromancers + a visit to where the dead reside? I mean. Why not? Paired with a wonderful cast of characters, all unique and intriguing in their own right, Reign of the Fallen is a beautifully atmospheric read for Halloween season!
♩ The Darkest Powers series by Kelley Armstrong
This series is just so much fun! Supernatural kids with underlying hints of romance and tons of action! I love, love, love this series for so many reasons and it's always a blast to be thrown back into Chloe's adventures!
♩ Gray Wolf Island by Tracey Neithercott
The writing in Gray Wolf Island is something else! It's so beautiful and atmospheric! There's a great cast of characters too—the group is so much fun and a lot of their conversations are super hilarious. There's a great setting and treasure hunting and secrets! It's truly a wonderful debut.
♩ Blackbird of the Gallows by Meg Kassel
Look, there's a great sarcastic character, tons of birds randomly flying around and seemingly out of nowhere, and a pretty cool end-of-the-world type of thing going on here and I am all for it. Blackbird was such a cool debut; the writing was fun and light and you just got sucked into the story! Plus, that cover!
♩ the Stalking Jack the Ripper series by Kerri Maniscalco
Taking place in the Ripper time (AKA I have no idea when lmfao), followed by a hunt for Dracula himself, Maniscalco's Ripper series is absolutely fun and full of gruesome mystery. The latest novel, Hunting Prince Dracula added more to the series and it's one you'll definitely want to read!
♩ the Monsters of Verity series by Victoria Schwab
First of all, it's Schwab. Second of all, there are monsters. Third, precious August Flynn, my love. Why should you read this book?
Well.
Why not?
♩ The Dreadful Tale of Prosper Redding by Alexandra Bracken
Alex Bracken's debut to middle grade is a successful one and literally perfect for Halloween. I mean, family curses? Whisked off to meet eccentric extended family, a cousin who's a witch—all during the mostwonderfulcreepy time of the year? Yes, please! Prosper is an incredibly fun novel so even if you're a fan of her YA, you won't want to miss out on this one!
♩ the Six of Crows duology by Leigh Bardugo
Six of Crows is a phenomenal novel, no matter what time of year it is. If you haven't read it yet (for some reason???), I hiiiiighly recommend it. Wonderful characters + great stakes + Inej & Nina.
♩ Velvet by Temple West
Okay, look. Look. This book has the dorkiest vampire I have ever come across. And the cutest fake-ship EVER. I love Adrian! And Caitlin has such a funny & sarcastic voice, it makes for a really enjoyable novel. You'll absolutely fall in love with the characters and the story!
So! I hope you guys had a wonderful month! I'm sad Halloween is over—the month, but the Holiday, too, I guess—but this month brought about a lot of great reads! What are some of your favourite Halloween-y reads?
